When What You Want is to Bake Banana Bread

Dear Friend,

You know what I want? To be happy. And…I want to bake banana bread, using some of my sourdough discard, to take to Craft Circle tomorrow evening. Sharing the yumminess will make me happy! But it’s late and I’m tired. So I won’t make the bread and I won’t take it to share. And I’ll feel icky inside because I knew I could have, but didn’t.

Or…

I could do what I know will make me feel happy and proud of myself, even if it requires energy right now.

Do what makes you happy and share it - Go bake your banana bread (or whatever!)!

Ugh, thinking about how I want to feel tomorrow…feels like a task. Does that make sense? But the idea of being able to choose how I feel has been intriguing. If I think ahead to Craft Circle tomorrow, I know without a doubt that taking homemade banana bread will make me feel better than if I don’t take it. But I know that means I have to go bake it instead of sit on the couch and scroll on my phone until bedtime.

So do I choose what is easier in the moment? Or do I choose what I know will make me happy?

Yeah, banana bread.

What makes you happy? What will make you happy tomorrow? Go do it!

With love

Your friend, Alexandra Kay

Postscript - Find the recipe for the banana bread I made here. It’s made with sourdough discard (if you know, you know). I also really love her chocolate chip cookies!
